About Nepali Ghat

A ghat built in the nineteenth century by the King of Nepal, crowned by a beautiful pagoda temple in the Kathmandu style. From the river it is one of the most distinct sights of Kashi.

History & Significance of Nepali Ghat

In the nineteenth century the royal house of Nepal raised this ghat as its pilgrimage residence in Kashi. Above it stands a two-storeyed pagoda temple in the timber-and-brick style of Kathmandu, held in memory of Pashupatinath, with a temple of Annapurna beside it. The sloping roofs and upright form match nothing else on the ghats. The quarter behind was once the neighbourhood of the Nepali community. It is among the most photographed ghats of Kashi.

उन्नीसवीं सदी में नेपाल के शाही परिवार ने काशी में अपने तीर्थ-निवास के लिए यह घाट बनवाया। घाट के ऊपर काठमांडू की लकड़ी और ईंट की शैली में बना दो-मंजिला पगोडा मंदिर है, जिसे पशुपतिनाथ की स्मृति में समर्पित माना जाता है — साथ में अन्नपूर्णा माता का मंदिर भी है। मंदिर की ढलती छतें और खड़ी आकृति शहर के किसी भी घाट से मेल नहीं खाती। घाट से सटा हुआ क्षेत्र नेपाली समुदाय का पड़ोस हुआ करता था। यह काशी के सबसे अधिक फोटो खिंचवाने वाले घाटों में से एक है।

Best time: Morning 6-9 AM for darshan; the noon sun shows the timberwork best.

Aarti Timings at Nepali Ghat
The pagoda temple is open from ~5-6 AM to ~8 PM. On the evening of Dev Deepawali the ghat and temple are lit with lamps.
