Pandey is a venerable priestly name of Banaras. When pilgrims came to Kashi, it was the Pandey families who conducted their baths, pujas and gifts of charity. This ghat carries that priestly tradition in its name. The ghat is small and plain, used by the families of the quarter each morning. A rest-house for pilgrims from eastern Uttar Pradesh is said to have stood here once.
