The steps are small, but the lanes above are gloriously old-Banaras — narrow and bursting with life. From the temple platform the spires of the city’s great shrines appear above the rooftops. Wedged between Janaki and Anandamayee ghats, this little landing has been the morning bathing spot of the neighbourhood for generations.
