History & Significance of Tulsi Ghat

English
In the sixteenth century the saint-poet Tulsidas settled in this quarter of the riverbank and here, tradition says, he wrote the Ramcharitmanas, carrying the Ram-katha to every home. The ghat carried an older name, but in time it came to be known after Tulsidas himself. The Kamal Narayan temple above was raised by the Palikar merchants. Today the ghat is a centre of morning bathing, worship and recitation; its wide steps and calm water make it a favourite of the boat tours.
