History & Significance of Ahilyabai Ghat
English
Queen Ahilyabai Holkar built this ghat in the eighteenth century as part of her great restoration of the tirthas of Kashi, raising ghats, temples and rest-houses from the treasury of Indore. The ghat lies just south of Dashashwamedh and shares its bustle, though the crowds are a little thinner. Old lanes climb above it towards the Vishwanath Galli. At the hour of the evening aarti, the great rite of Dashashwamedh is visible from these steps.
