The Bhonsle rulers of Nagpur were great patrons of Kashi — they raised several ghats and restored many temples. The Shiva temple at the centre of this ghat is their memorial, held dear by the neighbourhood. The ghat is small but its masonry is solid, and it has withstood the pressure of the floods. Lying between Ganga Mahal Ghat (II) and Naya Ghat, it is today a quiet local bathing place.
