History & Significance of Darbhanga Ghat

At the beginning of the twentieth century the Maharaja of the Darbhanga Raj of Bihar raised this ghat and palace. The palace, with its wide verandas in the western style, shows the new architecture of the age, with high ceilings and tall windows. The palace later housed the Sanskrit University residence. The stairs are broad, and the park above gives a beautiful view over the river. The ghat lies between Rana Mahal and Munshi Ghat.

बीसवीं सदी के आरंभ में दरभंगा राज (बिहार) के महाराजा ने यह घाट और महल बनवाए। महल की बारा बरामदे वाली पश्चिमी शैली उस दौर की नई वास्तुकला का नमूना है, जिसे अंग्रेजी इमारतों की तरह ऊंची छतों और खिड़कियों से सजाया गया। बाद में महल में संस्कृत विश्वविद्यालय का निवास रहा। घाट की सीढ़ियां चौड़ी हैं और ऊपर के पार्क से नदी का दृश्य बड़ा सुंदर दिखता है। यह घाट राना महल और मुंशी घाट के बीच बसा है।
