History & Significance of Rana Mahal Ghat
English
Rana Mahal belongs to the age when the Rajput princely houses built their palaces at Banaras, and its architecture reflects that tradition. According to some accounts the palace was built for a Rana — a Rajput chief — which gave the ghat its name. The stairs are wide, and though Manikarnika lies close, the mood here stays calm. The palace is now partly in private use.
