The Mahanirvani Akhara is among the greatest ascetic orders of Kashi, and this ghat is its bathing and meditation ground. At the Kumbh fairs these orders perform their royal baths; in Kashi this bank is their own. The ghat is plain, free of great buildings, and the steps show only the city people. Seen from a boat from the Shivala side, the ghat is recognised by its straight lines.
