History & Significance of Shivala Ghat
English
A temple of Shiva stands at the centre of the ghat, giving it and the whole quarter the name Shivala. In the eighteenth century the Maharajas of Kashi built their palaces and residences in this district, so Shivala also carries the memory of the royal quarter of the city. The stairs are wide, and from here the whole arc of the bank runs down to Tulsi Ghat. Traces of the old mansions still appear in the lanes. Morning brings both bathing and worship.
