In old Banaras the oil-pressers’ quarters stood near the ghats, and the drain of their trade was called the telianala. The ghat took its name from it. It lies to the north, where life moves at a calmer pace than the southern ghats. People bathe here at dawn and go about their work. Sakka and Nand ghats lie nearby.
