Both names of the ghat tell its story. In the eighteenth century the place fell into ruin, and so it was called Phuta, the broken. When it was rebuilt, the name Naya, the new, came into use as well. Between Telianala and Prahlad Ghats, the ghat is known by both names today. The calm of the north end and the open bank are its marks.
